The CAIIB opens an entry role that promotes upward — here's the ladder and what each rung pays.
Stage 1
Passing Increment (Clerical staff)
2 additional increments (3 total with JAIIB)
A clerk who clears CAIIB receives two further increments on top of the one for JAIIB, added to basic pay per IBA settlement terms.
Stage 2
Passing Increment (Officers)
Additional increment on completion
Officers completing CAIIB receive a further sanctioned increment, improving pay and promotion eligibility.
Stage 3
Branch Manager / Senior Officer
Faster managerial progression
CAIIB is strongly valued in officer promotions; it signals advanced competence in credit, risk and bank management and supports branch-head roles.
Stage 4
Specialist / Management Cadre
Professional standing + increment
The elective (e.g. Risk Management, IT & Digital Banking, Central Banking) positions officers for treasury, risk, compliance and central-office roles.

IIBF ordinary membership and a pass in JAIIB (or the erstwhile equivalent). Primarily for officers and staff of IIBF member banks/financial institutions.

How the CAIIB is structured
CAIIB (revised 2023 scheme) has four compulsory papers plus one elective chosen from five options. Each paper is 100 questions for 100 marks in 2 hours, online with no negative marking; some include case studies. Candidates get up to 5 attempts within a 3-year block, with cleared papers carried forward.

How to crack the CAIIB
Be an IIBF member and JAIIB-qualified
Ensure you hold IIBF ordinary membership and have passed JAIIB, the prerequisite for CAIIB.
Register for CAIIB online
Apply through the IIBF portal, select your elective and language, and pay the attempt-block fee.
Prepare the four compulsory papers + elective
Study ABM, BFM, ABFM and BRBL plus your chosen elective using IIBF courseware and mock tests.
Attempt the papers
Sit the online CBT papers in the May–June or Nov–Dec cycle; papers can be spread across sessions within the block.
Clear within the allowed attempts
Pass all five papers (50% each, or 45% each with 50% aggregate in one sitting) within 5 attempts / 3 years.
Receive certificate and increment(s)
On qualifying, IIBF issues the CAIIB certificate and eligible employees receive the associated increment(s).

Who can take CAIIB?
IIBF ordinary members who have already passed JAIIB, primarily officers and staff of IIBF member banks and financial institutions.
How many papers and attempts are there?
Five papers (four compulsory plus one elective), attemptable in up to 5 attempts within a 3-year block, with cleared papers carried forward.
Does CAIIB give a salary increment?
Yes. Under IBA settlements, clearing CAIIB earns additional increments (e.g. two more for clerical staff on top of JAIIB, and a further increment for officers).
What are the pass marks?
50% (50/100) in each paper, or 45% in each paper with an overall aggregate of 50% (250/500) in a single attempt.
Is IIBF membership and JAIIB required?
Yes, CAIIB requires IIBF membership and prior completion of JAIIB.
What is the difference between CAIIB and JAIIB?
JAIIB is foundational; CAIIB is advanced - covering bank management, financial/risk management, regulations, business laws and an elective - and carries additional increments.
