Officer Scale I: same Prelims → Mains plus a 100-mark Interview (final merit 80:20). Officer Scale II and III: a single 200-mark exam plus Interview. IBPS RRB FAQ
Is knowing the local language mandatory for IBPS RRB?
Yes. RRB recruitment is region-specific - you must read, write and speak the official/local language of the state whose RRB you apply to. It is verified during or after selection, and failing it can cost you the job regardless of exam score.
How is IBPS RRB different from IBPS PO and IBPS Clerk?
IBPS PO/Clerk recruit for public-sector commercial banks; IBPS RRB recruits for the 28 Regional Rural Banks and mandates local-language proficiency. Postings are mostly rural and semi-urban, the prelims is 45 minutes / 80 marks, and one notification covers both cadres.
Is an interview required for all IBPS RRB posts?
No. Office Assistant has NO interview - selection is purely on the Main exam. Officer posts (Scale I, II, III) have a 100-mark interview counting 20% toward final merit (Mains 80%).
What is the starting salary for Officer Scale I and Office Assistant?
Officer Scale I starts at a basic of ₹48,480 - roughly ₹57,000–61,000/month in-hand. Office Assistant starts at a basic of ₹20,700 - roughly ₹33,000–37,000/month in-hand. Figures vary by posting location.
How many vacancies does IBPS RRB offer?
It is consistently among India's largest banking recruitments - the 2025-26 cycle announced 13,516 vacancies across Office Assistant and Officer scales. Numbers vary each year and by state, so check the current CRP RRB notification.
Is IBPS RRB easier than IBPS PO?
The RRB Officer Scale I paper is often slightly easier topic-wise than IBPS PO, but the 45-minute prelims demands extreme speed, and competition within popular states is intense. Office Assistant is comparable to IBPS Clerk in difficulty.
What are the age limits and eligibility for IBPS RRB?
Office Assistant: 18–28 years; Officer Scale I: 18–30; Scale II: 21–32; Scale III: 21–40 (with relaxations). All posts need a bachelor's degree; Scale II/III also need experience and, for specialist posts, relevant qualifications.
Are RRB postings only in rural areas?
Postings are within the selected RRB's operational area - largely rural and semi-urban, though branches also exist in district and some urban centres. You commit to that state's RRB, so choose your state carefully.
Is there negative marking, and do prelims marks count in the final result?
0.25 marks are deducted per wrong answer in every objective paper. Prelims is only qualifying - final merit is based on the Main exam (Office Assistant) or Mains + Interview (Officers).
Can I apply for both Office Assistant and Officer Scale I?
Yes. They are separate posts with separate exams in the same notification - apply and appear for both if you meet each post's eligibility.
How long should I prepare for IBPS RRB?
3–5 months is typical. The prelims tests only Reasoning and Quant at high speed, so drill those daily and layer in GA, language and computer topics for Mains. Practice free IBPS RRB mock tests on PrepClever to build exam-day pace.
Can I choose Hindi instead of English in IBPS RRB?
Yes. In Mains you choose either English or Hindi as one section, and most other sections are bilingual - a big advantage for Hindi-medium aspirants.
