CAIIB- Exam Pattern, Syllabus & Preparation
IIBF's advanced banking certification that unlocks extra increments and faster managerial progression.
CAIIB is the advanced professional certification conducted by the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF), building specialised expertise in bank management, risk, treasury, regulations and business laws. It is taken by working bankers who have already cleared JAIIB, because passing earns additional salary increments under IBA settlements. The revised 2023 scheme has four compulsory papers plus one elective, held twice a year in online CBT mode. CAIIB strongly strengthens candidacy for officer promotions and senior management roles.

CAIIB vs JAIIB - which is tougher?
CAIIB is generally considered tougher: JAIIB tests foundational banking knowledge, while CAIIB tests advanced, applied concepts in bank management, risk, treasury and law, with more case-based questions. Most candidates find BFM and ABFM the most demanding papers.
Which CAIIB paper is the toughest?
Candidates commonly rate Bank Financial Management (BFM) as the toughest due to numerical forex, treasury and Basel III problems, with ABFM close behind for its valuation and corporate-finance content. Regular problem practice - for example with CAIIB mock tests on PrepClever - is the most reliable way to master them.
How long does it take to prepare for CAIIB?
Most working bankers prepare 3–4 months per cycle, giving 1–2 hours daily and covering one paper at a time. Finish the syllabus early, then spend the last weeks on revision and full-length practice - you can attempt free CAIIB mock tests and chapter-wise questions on PrepClever.
Which elective should I choose in CAIIB?
Choose based on your career track: Risk Management or IT & Digital Banking for specialist roles, Rural Banking if you work in RRB/rural postings, HR for people functions, Central Banking for policy interest. Many candidates pick the subject closest to their day-to-day work for easier scoring.
