Why candidates fail IFSCA Grade A
It's a new-enough regulator that most generic bank-PO or SEBI-style prep skips the IFSC regulatory framework entirely, yet it's a full stream-paper topic in Phase II.
With only around 20 posts across General, Legal and IT streams, the discipline-specific Paper 2 in both phases needs real subject depth, not surface-level revision.
IT-stream candidates underestimate the coding test inside Phase II and lose selection on the technical component, not the aptitude sections.
How IFSCA Grade A is actually structured
Three stages. Phase I is an online screening of two 100-mark objective papers (60 minutes each, ¼ negative marking): Paper 1 general aptitude and Paper 2 stream-specific, with sectional cut-offs around 30-40%. Phase II is a main exam of two 100-mark papers, a descriptive English paper and a stream paper covering finance, management, securities markets or the IFSC regulatory framework (IT candidates also sit a coding test). Shortlisted candidates then face a Phase III Interview, and merit is built discipline-wise on the combined Phase II and Interview score.

What is the IFSCA Grade A salary?
Following a revision, the basic pay is ₹62,500 with gross monthly emoluments of about ₹1.80 lakh including DA, HRA and allowances plus NPS, comparable to SEBI and above most Grade A regulator posts.
IFSCA Grade A vs SEBI Grade A - how do they compare?
Pay is broadly similar (around ₹1.8 lakh gross). SEBI offers more vacancies and an established Mumbai-based career track; IFSCA offers a fast-growing GIFT City mandate spanning banking, markets, insurance and funds under one roof. Syllabi overlap heavily, so many aspirants attempt both.
What is the age limit and eligibility?
Generally a maximum of 30 years with standard relaxations (SC/ST +5, OBC +3, PwBD as per rules). General stream accepts a relevant Master's, an Engineering degree, or CA/CS/CMA/CFA/MBA-Finance; Legal needs LLB and IT a technical degree.
Is there an attempt limit for IFSCA Grade A?
No fixed attempt cap has been specified; you may apply in any cycle while you meet the age criteria (with relaxations).
Which disciplines are recruited?
The 2025 cycle recruited General (12), Legal (4) and IT (4); disciplines and counts can vary each cycle per the notification.
What is the exam structure?
Two objective papers in Phase I, two main papers in Phase II (IT has a coding test), followed by a Phase III interview; Phase I is qualifying with ¼ negative marking.
Does Phase I count toward final selection?
No, Phase I is a screening stage with sectional cut-offs; the final merit list is built from Phase II and Interview scores, discipline-wise.
How competitive is IFSCA Grade A?
Very competitive: with only around 20 posts and premium pay, it attracts strong candidates, and the discipline-specific Paper 2 and Phase II demand deep subject knowledge.
How should I prepare and how long does it take?
Allow 4-6 months: cover aptitude and financial awareness for Phase I, then the IFSC regulatory framework, finance and management (or your stream subject) for Phase II, plus descriptive writing practice. Test yourself with free mock tests and practice questions on PrepClever.
