What Is IFSCA? India's Unified IFSC Regulator, Explained
One authority doing at GIFT City what RBI, SEBI, IRDAI and PFRDA do separately everywhere else.
IFSCA, the International Financial Services Centres Authority, is the unified regulator for financial products and services in India's International Financial Services Centres, created under the IFSCA Act 2019. Within an IFSC, most prominently GIFT City in Gandhinagar, it performs the roles that RBI, SEBI, IRDAI and PFRDA perform separately in the rest of India.
That one-authority design is the whole point. An IFSC exists to let international financial business operate from India under a single, purpose-built regulatory regime, and a firm setting up there deals with one regulator across banking, capital markets, insurance and fund management instead of four.

The Terms That Keep Appearing
- IFSC (International Financial Services Centre)
- A designated financial jurisdiction inside India that serves international clients and capital, operating under its own regulatory framework rather than the domestic one.
- GIFT City
- Gujarat International Finance Tec-City in Gandhinagar, home to India's operational IFSC and the base where IFSCA Grade A officers are primarily posted.
- IFSCA Act 2019
- The statute that created IFSCA and vested it with the powers of the four domestic financial regulators for financial services within IFSCs.
- Unified regulator
- A single authority covering banking, capital markets, insurance and fund management. IFSCA's officers rotate across domains that would be separate careers at the domestic regulators.
What IFSCA Actually Regulates
IFSCA's remit covers IFSC banking units, capital-market entities and their trading and settlement infrastructure, insurance operations, and fund management, plus the newer businesses India is steering toward GIFT City: fintech, and aircraft and ship leasing. Cross-border finance under FEMA runs through its territory by construction, since an IFSC's clients are largely international.
For an exam candidate, this breadth explains the syllabus. The Paper 2 IFSC-framework block, the IFSCA Act, the GIFT City ecosystem, IFSC regulations across all four domains, and global financial centres, is a direct map of the authority's own jurisdiction.

What a Grade A Officer Does There
Grade A (Assistant Manager) is IFSCA's entry officer post. Officers work across banking, capital markets, insurance, fund management and fintech regulation, at an authority young enough that early cohorts help build its supervisory practice rather than inherit it. The 2025 cycle recruited about 20 officers across General, Legal and IT streams, so each intake is small and the work correspondingly broad.
Considering the Exam?
The exam behind this regulator runs three stages with four 100-mark papers, and its pay is among the strongest at any Indian regulator: basic ₹62,500, gross around ₹1.80 lakh a month. The salary page and exam pattern page cover both in detail.
