How to Prepare for IFSCA Grade A
Standard regulator-exam preparation, plus one block nobody else tests: the IFSC framework. Plan for both.
IFSCA Grade A preparation is regulator-exam preparation with one extra obligation: the IFSC framework block, which no other exam you may have prepared for will have covered. The aptitude core, finance and management material, and descriptive English all transfer from RBI or SEBI preparation; the IFSCA Act, GIFT City ecosystem and IFSC regulations do not.
The 2025 calendar sets the other constraint. Notification to Phase 1 was about five weeks, so the plan below assumes you are preparing before any notification exists, which is the only way this exam can be prepared well.

A Working Preparation Plan
- 1
Baseline yourself with a timed test
Both Phase 1 papers run 60 minutes with one-fourth negative marking. A diagnostic under those rules shows where your hours should go before you commit them.
- 2
Build the shared core steadily
Reasoning, quant and English respond to short daily drills. Financial-sector awareness, which Paper 1 tests explicitly, comes from a daily economy-and-finance reading habit, not a late cram.
- 3
Give the discipline paper structured weekly time
For the General stream: financial system and markets, securities markets, banking and NBFCs, risk management, corporate finance and management. Rotate on a schedule so coverage stays wide.
- 4
Treat the IFSC framework block as its own subject
The IFSCA Act 2019, the GIFT City ecosystem, IFSC regulations across banking, insurance, capital markets and funds, FEMA and cross-border finance, and global financial centres. Start it early; there is no borrowed preparation to lean on here.
- 5
Practise typed descriptive English weekly
Phase 2's Paper 1 is an hour of typed essay, precis and comprehension worth 100 marks. Weekly timed writing is the difference between a paper that costs rank and one that earns it.
- 6
Finish on full mocks and let scores steer revision
Move to complete timed papers as your baseline improves, and point each week's revision at whatever the last mock exposed.
Respect the One-Hour Papers
Every written paper in this exam is 60 minutes, including a 50-question discipline paper in Phase 1. That pace punishes the working-it-out habit that untimed study builds. From the midpoint of your preparation onward, do most discipline practice against the clock, and train the discipline of leaving a doubtful question rather than donating a fourth of a mark to it.
A plan built on a guess about your weak area is a guess.
IT Stream Candidates Have a Seventh Step
The IT stream's Phase 2 discipline paper includes a coding test. If that is your stream, timed coding practice belongs in the weekly plan alongside everything above.
IFSCA Grade A Preparation FAQs
What should I prepare first for IFSCA Grade A?expand_more
Start the IFSC framework block and the discipline subjects early, since they need sustained time, and run short daily aptitude drills alongside. A timed diagnostic first tells you the right split for you.
Does RBI or SEBI preparation help for IFSCA?expand_more
Substantially. The aptitude core, financial awareness, and finance and management material overlap. What does not transfer is the IFSC framework block: the IFSCA Act, GIFT City ecosystem and IFSC regulations need dedicated preparation.
When should I start preparing?expand_more
Before the notification. The 2025 cycle gave about five weeks from notification to Phase 1, which is revision time, not preparation time.
