The Three Tracks
If you're a finance graduate wondering which government exam to target, you're typically choosing between:
- SSC CGL: Multi-department (Income Tax Inspector, CBI, CAG) — broad government work
- IBPS PO/Clerk: Public sector banking — branch banking operations and credit
- SEBI/NABARD Grade A: Financial regulation — securities markets, rural banking
Choose SSC CGL If:
- You want enforcement/investigation work (CBI, Income Tax)
- You're open to all-India postings
- You want a shorter exam preparation period (Tier 1 + Tier 2 — no GD/interview for most posts)
- You value identity as "government officer" over banking/financial expertise
- You have strong quantitative aptitude and reasoning skills
Choose IBPS PO/Clerk If:
- You want a well-defined career ladder with predictable promotions
- You're comfortable in a branch banking environment
- You want access to subsidised home loans and employee banking benefits
- You prefer English/Hindi aptitude exams over technical finance knowledge
- You want annual exam cycles (IBPS is every year, more predictable than SEBI)
Choose SEBI/NABARD Grade A If:
- You have a finance/economics background (MBA Finance, CA, Economics graduate)
- You're genuinely interested in market regulation, monetary policy, or rural development
- You're comfortable with a harder exam covering securities laws and specialist knowledge
- You want prestige and intellectual work over routine operations
- You have NISM certifications that give you a head start on securities law knowledge

The PrepClever Approach
PrepClever builds adaptive practice for all these exam tracks. NISM certification preparation is the foundation — and the quantitative aptitude, financial awareness, and regulatory knowledge built through NISM directly applies to SEBI Grade A and IBPS PO banking awareness sections.
Our recommendation: start with NISM Series V-A or VIII (high ROI certifications), then layer in your target government exam preparation on top. You're not studying twice — you're building a foundation that compounds.
