About this career
A quantitative analyst (quant) builds the mathematical models that price derivatives, drive systematic trading strategies and measure risk, combining stochastic calculus, statistics and heavy programming. It is one of the most intellectually demanding and highest-paid careers in finance, concentrated in investment banks, hedge funds, prop-trading firms and their global capability centres. No certification is mandatory — quants are hired on deep quantitative ability, usually with a master's or PhD in maths, physics, statistics or engineering plus strong Python/C++. Credentials like the FRM, CQF or CFA can complement the profile, especially on the risk side.

Frequently asked questions
What degree do I need to become a quant?expand_more
Most quants hold a master's or PhD in a highly quantitative field — mathematics, physics, statistics, computer science or engineering — plus strong programming (Python, C++).
Is FRM or CQF enough to become a quant?expand_more
They help, especially on the risk side, but they do not replace deep quantitative ability. Quants are hired primarily on demonstrated mathematical and programming excellence.
