IBPS SO Eligibility: The Degree Decides the Post
Unlike PO and Clerk, any-degree graduates cannot pick any post here. Your qualification determines which stream you can enter.
IBPS SO eligibility differs from every other IBPS exam in one fundamental way: the degree is not just a threshold, it is a gate that decides which post you can apply for. IT Officer needs a B.E./B.Tech, Law Officer needs an LLB, HR and Marketing Officer need an MBA, and Agriculture Field Officer needs a B.Sc in Agriculture. The age window is 20 to 30 years, with the usual category relaxations, and applicants must be Indian citizens.
So the first eligibility question is not "am I eligible for IBPS SO" but "which IBPS SO post is my degree eligible for." Usually the answer is exactly one.

Post-Wise Degree Requirements
| Post | Required qualification |
|---|---|
| IT Officer | B.E./B.Tech (IT/CS or equivalent); MCA graduates also eligible |
| Law Officer | LLB |
| HR / Personnel Officer | MBA (HR) |
| Marketing Officer | MBA (Marketing) |
| Agriculture Field Officer | B.Sc Agriculture |
Age and Nationality
The age window is 20 to 30 years, with a 5-year relaxation for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC. Nationality: citizen of India.
Because most SO applicants complete a professional degree first, engineering, law, an MBA, the effective runway inside the age window is often shorter than it looks. A candidate finishing an MBA at 25 has five general-category cycles, not ten.

Exact Degree Definitions Live in the Notification
Which specific degrees and equivalents qualify for each post, and any experience conditions, are defined in each year's official IBPS notification and can change between cycles. Confirm your qualification against the current notification on ibps.in before applying; this table is orientation, not the rulebook.
Can You Apply Without the Matching Degree?
No. Unlike IBPS PO and Clerk, where any-discipline graduates apply on equal terms, SO posts are closed to non-matching qualifications. A commerce graduate cannot apply for IT Officer, and an engineer cannot apply for Law Officer. The one commonly asked flexibility is on the IT side: MCA graduates are eligible for IT Officer alongside B.E./B.Tech and B.Sc (IT/CS) holders.
