FRM Eligibility and Registration
No degree needed, no age bar, open to Indian candidates. The real gate comes after the exams, not before.
There is no formal degree or academic prerequisite to sit the FRM exams, no minimum or maximum age, and the program is open globally, including to Indian candidates. Students still in college, working professionals switching fields, and career risk staff all enrol on the same terms.
The requirement people mistake for eligibility actually sits at the other end of the program: to be awarded the FRM designation after passing both exams, you must demonstrate 2 years of relevant full-time financial-risk work experience, submitted within 4 years of passing Part II.
Who Can Enrol
- Education
- No formal degree or academic prerequisite to sit the exams. A student in any year of any course can register.
- Age
- No minimum or maximum age requirement.
- Nationality
- Open globally, including Indian candidates. There is no citizenship or residency condition.
- Work experience
- Not needed to sit either exam. Needed only for the designation itself: 2 years of relevant full-time financial-risk experience, submitted within 4 years of passing Part II.
How to Register for the FRM Exam
- 1
Create a GARP account
Enrolment happens at garp.org. The one-time enrolment fee is paid when you first register for Part I.
- 2
Pick an exam window
Both parts run in three windows a year: May, August and November. Choose the one your preparation timeline can honestly meet.
- 3
Pay the exam fee
Each part carries its own exam fee on top of the one-time enrolment fee. Registering early in the cycle costs less than standard registration.
- 4
Schedule your computer-based sitting
The exams are computer-based; you sit them at a test centre in your chosen window.
See the question style before you enrol with GARP.
What Counts as a Student's Path
Because there is no academic prerequisite, final-year students sometimes clear Part I, or both parts, before graduating, then let the experience clock run during their first risk job. The 4-year deadline for submitting experience after Part II makes this workable: the exams and the experience requirement do not need to happen in strict sequence, only within their windows.
Verify Before You Register
Registration mechanics, fees and window dates are set by GARP and revised between cycles. Confirm the current details on garp.org before paying.
