What Is the Difference Between JAIIB and CAIIB?
JAIIB is the foundational IIBF certification: four compulsory papers covering core banking, accounting and retail banking. CAIIB is the advanced one: four compulsory papers on bank management, financial and risk management, business strategy and banking law, plus an elective. JAIIB must be cleared first, and CAIIB earns additional salary increments on top of JAIIB's.

What Actually Gets Harder
- check_circleDepth, not format. The paper structure barely changes; the content moves from definitions to application, especially in credit, risk and treasury.
- check_circleNumerical weight. BFM and ABM carry calculation-heavy content that JAIIB's papers only introduce.

No. A JAIIB pass (or the erstwhile equivalent) is a prerequisite for CAIIB, along with IIBF ordinary membership.
Is CAIIB harder than JAIIB?expand_more
It is the advanced tier: same paper format, but deeper, more applied content, heavier numericals in ABM and BFM, case-study questions in some papers, and a fifth paper via the elective.
How many increments do JAIIB and CAIIB give together?expand_more
For clerical staff in IBA-member banks: one increment for JAIIB and two more for CAIIB, three in total. Officers earn an increment for each under settlement terms.
Do JAIIB and CAIIB have the same attempt rules?expand_more
Yes: up to 5 attempts within a 3-year block for each, with cleared papers carrying forward inside the block.
