IC-38 Previous Year Papers: The Straight Answer
No official past paper exists for IC-38. Here is what genuinely substitutes for one.
If you came here for an IC-38 previous year question paper with answers, the honest answer is that one does not exist to download. The Insurance Institute of India does not release past IC-38 papers or answer keys, and the exam is not structured in a way that would produce them.
IC-38 is booked on demand and conducted daily at authorised centres, drawn from a question bank rather than sat by everyone on one day. There is no annual paper for a later year to look back on. What does exist, and what this page covers, is the exam pattern you will actually face, the syllabus areas that recur because they are the subject itself, and a sane way to handle the recalled question sets floating around elsewhere.

No official IC-38 past papers are published
There is no official archive, PDF or answer key of past IC-38 papers. Files circulating as an "IC-38 question paper with answer PDF" are candidate recollections or coaching compilations, not captured originals. This page will not host, reproduce or link to that material, and will not describe it as official.
Why there is no IC-38 previous year paper
Two reasons, and the second is the one most pages miss. First, the conducting body does not publish question papers or keys after the exam. Second, IC-38 has no common sitting: candidates book slots individually after completing training, and exams run daily at authorised centres. A paper attempted on a Tuesday in one city is not the paper another candidate sees on Thursday in another.
That is also why your result is on screen the moment you submit. The exam is computer-based and scored instantly, which removes the one point in the cycle where a paper and key would normally be released for review.
The pattern to practise against
This is the format any practice you do should mirror. The full breakdown lives on the exam pattern page.

What actually substitutes for a past paper
Four things, each worth more than a recalled PDF, and each labelled for what it is:
- check_circleThe official study material from the Insurance Institute of India. This is the source the question bank is written against, which is as close to the exam as any document gets.
- check_circleThe published syllabus, read as a checklist. The Common section plus your own track is the entire territory a question can come from.
- check_circleTimed practice at the real format: 50 questions, 60 minutes, no negative marking, so you learn to attempt everything rather than leave blanks.
- check_circleScored, chapter-wise practice, which tells you which chapter is costing you marks. A static PDF of recalled questions cannot do that.
Which areas recur, and why
Not measured weightage, which is not published. These are the syllabus areas that keep appearing because they are central to the subject and to an agent's actual work.
- Insurance principles
- Utmost good faith, insurable interest, indemnity, how risk pooling works, and the role of the agent. Definition-led questions cluster here.
- Regulatory framework
- The IRDAI Act and functions, Insurance Act provisions, the agent code of conduct, licensing rules, the prohibition of rebating, and AML and KYC norms.
- Products for your track
- Life candidates cover term, endowment, whole life, ULIPs and annuities. General candidates cover motor, fire, marine, health and liability. Composite candidates cover both.
- Policy documents and servicing
- Proposal form and prospectus, the policy document and endorsements, the free-look period, nomination and assignment, premium payment, lapse and revival.
- Claims and grievance redressal
- Claim procedures and documentation, repudiation, the Insurance Ombudsman, and consumer protection for policyholders.
- Ethics and customer service
- Ethical selling, suitability and disclosure, complaint handling, and after-sales service. Situational questions usually sit here.
How to use a recalled question set without being misled
If you find a set of IC-38 questions described as a past paper, treat it this way:
- 1
Check it against the syllabus first
If a question is not on the Common section or your track, it is not an IC-38 question, whatever the file is called.
- 2
Read "previous year paper" as reconstruction
It is someone's recollection typed up afterwards, or a coaching compilation. Wording, options and the stated answer all drift.
- 3
Verify every answer yourself
Work the answer out from the principle or regulation behind it. If you cannot justify the given key from the study material, do not learn it.
- 4
Watch for outdated regulation
Regulatory questions age fastest. Anything on licensing, commissions or KYC that predates a rule change will teach you the wrong answer confidently.
- 5
Use it for feel, not for spotting
It is a reasonable sense of phrasing and difficulty. Betting on a specific question reappearing in a daily-drawn bank is not a strategy.
Do IC-38 questions repeat?
Topics repeat. Questions are not something you can count on repeating, because candidates are served from a bank across exams running every day, and the regulatory ground underneath the syllabus is revised from time to time.
The practical consequence is straightforward. Learning why the free-look period exists prepares you for every way it can be asked. Memorising one recalled question about it prepares you for that question only.
A practice routine that works without past papers
Built around the real format rather than around a document that does not exist:
- checkRead the official study material chapter by chapter, Common section first, then your track.
- checkAfter each chapter, answer questions on that chapter alone, while the material is fresh.
- checkOnce the syllabus is covered, sit full 50-question papers under the 60-minute limit.
- checkAttempt every question. There is no negative marking currently reported, so a blank is a guaranteed zero.
- checkScore yourself chapter by chapter and re-read only the chapters that lost marks.
- checkAim comfortably above the 18-mark qualifying line, not at it.
On free PDF downloads
We do not publish an IC-38 previous year paper PDF and will not link to one, because no official past paper exists to publish. Free study material and a free diagnostic test on the current syllabus are the useful version of that offer, and they tell you where you stand instead of where someone else once stood.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Insurance Institute of India release IC-38 previous year question papers?expand_more
No. Past IC-38 question papers and answer keys are not published. The exam is conducted on demand at authorised centres rather than as a single annual sitting, so there is no common paper to release.
Where can I get an IC-38 question paper with answers in PDF?expand_more
Not from any official source, because none is published. Files offered under that name are candidate recollections or coaching compilations, and their answers are unverified.
Are memory-based IC-38 papers reliable?expand_more
Only as a rough sense of phrasing and difficulty. The wording, the options and sometimes the marked answer can be wrong, and regulatory questions in particular go out of date. Verify anything you take from them against the official study material.
What should I practise instead of past papers?expand_more
Questions built to the current pattern: 50 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes for 50 marks, qualifying at 18 marks or 35%, with no negative marking currently reported. Chapter-wise scoring is what tells you where to revise.
Do IC-38 questions repeat from one exam to another?expand_more
Not predictably. Candidates are served from a question bank at daily exam slots. The syllabus areas recur, so prepare the concept rather than a specific question.
How many questions do I need to get right to pass IC-38?expand_more
At least 18 correct out of 50, which is 35%. There is no negative marking currently reported, so leaving a question blank only removes a chance to score.
