AUM (Assets Under Management) is the single most important metric for judging the size of a mutual fund or AMC. India's total MF industry AUM crossed ₹60 lakh crore in 2024, making it one of the fastest-growing in the world.

AUM changes daily as: 1) market prices of held securities change, 2) investors buy new units (inflows increase AUM), 3) investors redeem (outflows reduce AUM).

AMC revenue = AUM × expense ratio. Larger AUM → more revenue for AMC.
