IRDAI Assistant Manager Study Material, Mapped to the Syllabus
There is no official IRDAI textbook for this exam. What works is mapping standard sources to each syllabus section, and practising the rest.
There is no official IRDAI textbook for the Assistant Manager exam. The syllabus is published; the reading list is not. The practical approach is to map source types to syllabus sections: standard aptitude material for Phase I, IRDAI's own published regulations and annual publications for insurance depth, and steady current-affairs reading for the awareness sections.
That is different advice from the usual recycled booklist, and it is deliberate. What decides this exam is the descriptive Phase II, and no single book covers Economic and Social Issues impacting Insurance the way the syllabus frames it. You assemble coverage; you do not buy it.

Source Type by Syllabus Section
| Syllabus section | Where the material comes from |
|---|---|
| Reasoning, Quant, English (Phase I) | Any standard bank-PO-level aptitude material and practice sets |
| General, insurance & financial awareness | Insurance-sector news, IRDAI announcements, scheme coverage |
| ESI impacting Insurance (Phase II) | Indian economy reading, insurance penetration and inclusion topics, structured into written answers |
| Insurance & Management (Phase II) | The Insurance Act, IRDAI Act and regulations from irdai.gov.in, plus management fundamentals |
| Answer writing (all Phase II papers) | Your own typed practice, reviewed against model structures |
Reading Directly From the Regulator
IRDAI publishes the primary material for the insurance-heavy sections itself, free, at irdai.gov.in:
- check_circleThe IRDAI Act and the Insurance Act, the two statutes the Insurance and Management syllabus names.
- check_circleRegulations and circulars, which are what "insurance terminology and regulations" questions draw on.
- check_circleAnnual publications and press releases, the source for penetration, density and sector-development themes in ESI.

What About Coaching-Institute Material?
Compiled material can save time for Phase I, where the aptitude syllabus is generic and well-served. Be more careful with Phase II compilations: the ESI impacting Insurance paper is specific to this exam, and repackaged RBI Grade B or NABARD notes cover the economy half while missing the insurance half. Check any compilation against the syllabus section list before trusting it.
Practice Is Material Too
For a 160-question objective phase with negative marking and a typed descriptive phase, question practice and writing practice are not supplements to study material. They are half of it.
Study Material FAQs
Is there an official book for IRDAI Assistant Manager?expand_more
No. IRDAI publishes the syllabus and its own regulations and statutes at irdai.gov.in, but no official textbook for the exam. Preparation is assembled from aptitude material, regulator publications and practice.
What should I read for the ESI impacting Insurance paper?expand_more
Indian economy and social-issues reading, combined with insurance-specific themes: penetration and density, financial inclusion and social security, and sector reforms. IRDAI's own annual publications carry the sector data these answers need.
Can I prepare for Phase I with bank exam material?expand_more
Yes, for Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English, which are at bank-PO level. The General Awareness section needs insurance-sector supplementation that bank material does not provide.
