RBI Grade B Eligibility: Who Can Apply
A 60% degree, an age band of 21 to 30, and an attempt cap that only applies to some categories.
RBI Grade B eligibility for the General stream needs three things: a Bachelor's degree with at least 60% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwBD) or a postgraduate degree with 55%, an age between 21 and 30 years with category relaxations, and Indian citizenship or an equivalent permitted status.
The specialist streams raise the education bar. DEPR asks for a Master's in Economics or a related subject with 55%; DSIM asks for a Master's in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics or Econometrics with 55%. Everything else on this page applies across streams.

Education Requirement by Stream
| Stream | Minimum qualification |
|---|---|
| General (DR) | Bachelor's with 60% (50% SC/ST/PwBD), or PG with 55% |
| DEPR | Master's in Economics or related subject with 55% |
| DSIM | Master's in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics or Econometrics with 55% |
Age Limit and Relaxations
The base age band is 21 to 30 years. On top of that, SC/ST candidates get 5 extra years, OBC candidates 3, and PwBD candidates 10. If you are near the upper limit, note that the age is reckoned per the cycle's notification, so the exact cut-off date matters; check it before assuming you have one more cycle.
How Many Attempts Do You Get?
General and EWS candidates are limited to 6 attempts at Phase 1. SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates face no attempt cap and can appear as long as they remain within the age limit. An attempt is counted at Phase 1, so cycles where you applied but did not sit the exam are a notification-level detail worth confirming for your own case.
See the question style before you commit to a cycle.
Nationality
- check_circleIndian citizens are eligible.
- check_circleSubjects of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1962, and persons of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries are also covered, per the notification's standard clause.
Check the Current Notification Before You Apply
Eligibility thresholds, relaxations and the age reckoning date are set per notification and can change between cycles. The figures here reflect the 2024 cycle as last notified. Confirm against the current RBI Grade B notification on rbi.org.in before applying.
