SSC MTS Eligibility: Who Can Apply
One of the few central government exams open at Class 10. Two age bands, depending on the post.
SSC MTS is one of the few central government exams a Class 10 pass unlocks. No 12th, no degree, no typing certificate: matriculation from a recognised board, Indian citizenship, and the right age band.
The one wrinkle is that the same exam carries two age bands, because it recruits for two kinds of posts: regular MTS and the uniformed Havaldar posts in CBIC and CBN.

Higher Qualifications Are Not a Bar
Candidates with 12th, graduation or beyond can apply; Class 10 is a floor, not a ceiling. In practice the applicant pool includes many overqualified candidates chasing job security, which is part of why competition stays heavy despite the basic question level.
Verify Against the Current Notification
Age cut-off dates and category rules are fixed per notification and can shift between cycles. Before applying, confirm the exact bands and dates in the current SSC MTS notification on ssc.gov.in.
