IBPS RRB Eligibility: Post by Post
Four posts, four age bands, one non-negotiable language rule. Check the right row before you apply.
IBPS RRB eligibility is post-wise: the same notification recruits four posts with four different age bands, from 18-28 for Office Assistant up to 21-40 for Officer Scale III, and with degree requirements that tighten as the scale rises. Every post shares one requirement that has no exceptions: proficiency in the official or local language of the state whose RRB you apply to.
Check the row for your post before anything else. Being eligible for one post and not another is normal here, and the application makes you choose.

The Local Language Rule Is Post-Agnostic
Applicants must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking the official or local language of the state whose RRB they apply to. The requirement applies to every post, is verified during or after the exam process, and failing it can cost the job regardless of exam score.
This is stricter than IBPS PO or Clerk, where recruitment is not region-locked in the same way. Treat the state choice and the language check as one decision: apply where your language proficiency is real, not aspirational.

Nationality
Applicants must be Indian citizens. The language proficiency condition attaches on top of citizenship for every post, so there is no route around it via category or qualification.
Check the Current Notification Before Applying
Vacancies, fees, dates, cut-offs and eligibility thresholds are revised per CRP RRB notification. Figures here reflect the 2025-26 cycle as last notified. Confirm the current notification on ibps.in before you act on them.
