CAIIB Study Material: What to Use, What to Skip
The official courseware is the anchor. What you add around it depends on the paper, and mostly on the numericals.
CAIIB study material starts and mostly ends with IIBF's own courseware: the Macmillan-published books for each paper, plus IIBF's e-learning modules and mock tests. Everything else you add, question banks, video courses, summary notes, is scaffolding around that core.
The real question is not which book to buy. It is how to split limited after-work hours between reading and practice for five papers, two of which are numerical enough to sink an attempt on their own.

What Is the Official CAIIB Study Material?
IIBF's official study material for CAIIB is its Macmillan courseware, one volume per paper, backed by IIBF's e-learning modules and mock tests. The courseware follows the revised 2023 scheme papers: ABM, BFM, ABFM, BRBL and the electives. The exam is set against this syllabus, which makes the courseware the anchor text for every paper.

How to Judge Third-Party Material
Unofficial guides and question banks vary widely. Filter them with three checks.
- check_circleIt names the revised papers, ABM, BFM, ABFM and BRBL. Material organised around the old scheme is quietly wrong in places.
- check_circleNumericals come with worked solutions, not just answer keys. BFM and ABM are cleared through worked practice.
- check_circleIt is dated. Banking regulation moves; an undated PDF of unknown vintage is a risk, not a shortcut.
Find your weak paper before you buy anything.
Old-Syllabus Notes Fail Quietly
ABFM and BRBL are structured differently under the revised scheme than their predecessors. Notes built for the old papers still circulate widely and look plausible. Check the paper names before trusting any borrowed material.
Reading Alone Does Not Clear BFM
The courseware tells you how a forward rate or a capital ratio works. It cannot tell you whether you can produce the calculation, under time pressure, in question 74 of 100. That gap between recognising and producing is where most CAIIB attempts fail, and only timed practice closes it.
A workable split for most working bankers: read a chapter, then immediately drill questions on it while it is fresh, and reserve full timed papers for the final weeks before the cycle.
FAQs
Which books are best for CAIIB?expand_more
IIBF's own Macmillan courseware for each paper is the anchor; the exam is set against its syllabus. Add worked-solution practice for the ABM and BFM numericals rather than a second textbook.
Is IIBF's e-learning material enough on its own?expand_more
IIBF's courseware, e-learning modules and mock tests cover the syllabus. What they cannot guarantee is calculation speed under exam timing, which needs separate timed practice.
Can I reuse my JAIIB study material for CAIIB?expand_more
No. CAIIB has its own courseware for ABM, BFM, ABFM, BRBL and the electives. JAIIB material covers foundations that CAIIB assumes rather than tests.
