IIBF AML/KYC Previous Year Papers
No official past paper exists for this certificate. Here's what to prepare from instead, and why.
If you came looking for an IIBF AML/KYC previous year question paper with answers, the direct answer is that it doesn't officially exist. IIBF does not release past papers, model papers or answer keys for this certificate.
What does exist is enough to prepare properly: a published paper format, a published syllabus, and a subject whose core ground recurs because the law and the norms behind it don't change every fortnight. This page sets out what to use, and how to read the "memory-based" question sets that circulate under the previous-papers label without being misled by them.

IIBF Publishes No Official AML/KYC Past Papers
There is no IIBF archive, PDF or answer key of past AML/KYC question papers. Anything online presented as a genuine paper is, at best, someone's reconstruction written from memory after sitting the exam. We do not reproduce, host or link to that material here, and we will not call it official.
Why No Past Papers Are Released
AML/KYC is delivered as an online, remote-proctored paper drawn from a question bank, and sittings run on the 2nd and 4th Saturday, and on all Sundays, year-round. A question set that was published after every sitting would be a question set that had to be rebuilt most weeks.
That frequency is also why "the previous paper" is a shakier idea here than for an exam with two sittings a year. There is no single recent paper for everyone to have taken. Different candidates on different weekends see different draws from the same bank.
What You Can Actually Work From
Four things, each labelled for exactly what it is:
- check_circleThe published paper format: how many questions, how long you get, what the pass bar is. Confirmed, not inferred.
- check_circleIIBF's published syllabus for the two parts of the exam, which is the real map of what can be asked.
- check_circleIIBF's own designated courseware, which the exam is set against.
- check_circleOriginal practice questions written to the published syllabus and the published format, scored and timed. That is the closest honest substitute for solving a past paper.
The Paper You're Actually Practising For
Practice is only useful against the real shape of the exam. The full breakdown lives on the exam pattern page; this is the part that changes how you practise.
| Detail | Confirmed figure |
|---|---|
| Papers | 1, a single certificate exam |
| Questions | 120 multiple-choice |
| Marks | 100 |
| Duration | 2 hours |

What the Format Implies for Practice
120 questions in 120 minutes is a minute a question, including reading. That rules out long deliberation, so practice has to be timed or it teaches the wrong pace.
There is no negative marking, so an unanswered question and a wrong one score the same. Practice should train you to commit to an answer on every item rather than leaving blanks, which is a habit best built under a clock.
The 60 out of 100 pass bar is high enough that scraping one part of the syllabus while ignoring the other doesn't work. Both the Anti-Money Laundering and the Know Your Customer halves have to be solid.
The Ground That Recurs
Specific questions are not recycled in any way you can rely on, but the syllabus areas below are core to the subject and will keep appearing in some form. Prepare the concept, not the question. The full topic list is on the syllabus page.
- Money laundering itself
- The concept and techniques of laundering, and its impact on banks and the wider economy.
- The legal framework
- The Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 and its rules, alongside RBI's AML guidelines.
- The international layer
- International AML legislation and Basel standards, FATF recommendations, FIU-IND, and the financing of terrorism.
- Customer due diligence
- Customer profiles and KYC policies, CDD and EDD, and risk categorisation.
- Onboarding and reporting
- Account opening for various entities and politically exposed persons, suspicious transaction reporting and CTR, ongoing monitoring and record keeping.
How to Use a Recalled Question Set Without Being Misled
If you find a "memory-based" or "previous year" AML/KYC set elsewhere, here's how to handle it:
- 1
Anchor to the syllabus and format first
Read the recalled set against the published syllabus, never the other way round. It is a supplement, not a source.
- 2
Read "memory-based" as reconstructed, not verbatim
Wording, options and even the stated correct answer drift as the set is copied forward. None of it was captured from a real paper.
- 3
Verify every answer against the rule behind it
AML and KYC answers trace back to PMLA, its rules or RBI's guidelines. If you can't justify the given answer from the source, treat it as wrong.
- 4
Watch for stale regulation
This is the specific risk in a compliance subject. A recalled question from an older cycle can quote a threshold or a norm that has since been revised, and it will read as authoritative anyway.
- 5
Use it for style, not for spotting
It can give you a rough feel for phrasing and difficulty. Betting on a specific recalled question reappearing in a bank this large is not a plan.
- 6
Do the retrieval work under a clock
Reading a static set tells you nothing about what you'd recall at one minute per question. A scored, timed set does.
On "Free PDF Download" Pages
We don't publish an AML/KYC previous year papers PDF, and we won't link to third-party ones. No official past papers exist to be downloaded, and files sold or given away under that name are recalled content of uncertain accuracy, sometimes quoting regulation that has since moved on. Practice questions written against the current published syllabus are the safer substitute.
FAQs
Does IIBF release official AML/KYC previous year question papers?expand_more
No. IIBF does not publish past question papers, model papers or answer keys for the Certificate Examination in AML/KYC.
Where can I get AML/KYC previous year papers with answers?expand_more
Nowhere official, because they are not released. What circulates online is candidate-reconstructed "memory-based" material, which is not a past paper and should not be treated as verified.
Is there a free IIBF AML/KYC question paper PDF?expand_more
Not an official one. Free PDFs claiming to be AML/KYC past papers are recalled content of uneven accuracy, and in a compliance subject they can also quote rules that have since been revised.
Do AML/KYC exam questions repeat?expand_more
Not reliably. The exam is drawn from a question bank and runs on the 2nd and 4th Saturday, and on all Sundays, so candidates at different sittings see different draws. Core syllabus areas such as PMLA, FATF norms and customer due diligence recur because they are central to the subject.
How many questions are on the AML/KYC paper?expand_more
120 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks in 2 hours, in English, with no negative marking. The pass mark is 60 out of 100.
What is the best substitute for solving past papers?expand_more
Timed, scored practice questions written against IIBF's published syllabus and the real 120-question, 2-hour format, worked through until you can justify each answer from the underlying rule.
