What Is the In-Hand Salary After Joining?
For Level 6 posts on the ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400 scale, gross monthly pay including HRA and DA works out to roughly ₹50,000 to ₹65,000 in metro cities. The exact figure moves with the city of posting, since HRA rates differ by city class.
Which Post Is Considered the Best?
By the usual measures, pay level, career growth and status, Inspector of Income Tax and Assistant Audit Officer lead the list. Both sit at Level 7 pay, AAO is gazetted, and both offer clear promotion ladders with pan-India posting options.
Best-on-paper is not best-for-you, though. AAO involves audit desk work; Income Tax Inspector mixes field and desk; CBI Sub-Inspector is investigative and can be demanding on hours. Candidates who pick purely by pay level sometimes trade into work they dislike for a few thousand rupees a month.
