SSC CHSL Exam Dates: The Full Yearly Cycle
Notification in winter, Tier 1 in spring, the skill test more than a year later. The full sequence.
The CHSL cycle starts later in the year than CGL's and stretches further: notification around winter, Tier 1 in spring, Tier 2 in autumn, and the skill or typing test in the early months of the following year. From first form to final post, plan for well over a year.
The exact dates belong to each cycle's notification. The shape below is what recent cycles have looked like, which is enough to time your preparation start.

The Typical SSC CHSL Cycle
Expected months, based on recent cycles. The current notification on ssc.gov.in is the only binding source.
| Stage | Typical Months |
|---|---|
| Notification release | November-December |
| Application window | December-January |
| Tier 1 exam | March-May |
| Tier 2 exam | October-November |
| Skill / typing test | January-February (following year) |
Reading the Timeline as a Study Plan
Tier 1 in March-May means preparation should be running by the time the notification appears in November-December; candidates who wait for the form to open give themselves barely a quarter. The long gap to Tier 2 in October-November is the second preparation block, and its 120-mark English section deserves most of it.
The skill test sits months after Tier 2, but typing speed is a physical skill that builds slowly. Candidates targeting PA, SA or DEO posts should be practising through the whole cycle, not starting after the Tier 2 result.
