SSC CPO Posts and Salary: What Each Post Pays
One exam, several uniforms. The force you join decides the pay level, the posting rules and the daily work.
SSC CPO recruits Sub-Inspectors for Delhi Police and the Central Armed Police Forces (BSF, CISF, CRPF, SSB, ITBP), plus Assistant Sub-Inspectors for CISF. Sub-Inspector posts sit at Pay Level 6 with a pay scale of ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400 per month; the ASI post in CISF sits at Pay Level 5, ₹29,200 to ₹92,300.
The exam is common, but the jobs are not interchangeable. Posting rules, daily work and career shape differ sharply between Delhi Police and the CAPFs, and the preference order you file matters.

SI vs ASI: What the Difference Actually Is
- Sub-Inspector (SI)
- The main CPO post, at Pay Level 6 with ₹35,400 base pay. Available in Delhi Police and across the CAPFs through this exam.
- Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI)
- A CISF post one level below, at Pay Level 5 with ₹29,200 base pay. The work centres on industrial and infrastructure security.
Whichever force you want, the paper is the same. See it first.
Delhi Police or CAPF: Choose on Lifestyle, Not Prestige
A Delhi Police SI stays within Delhi. A CAPF SI is posted pan-India, with field duty that can mean border areas, industrial sites or deployment wherever the force is needed. Neither is the easier job; they are different lives. Candidates who file preferences on rank-list folklore rather than on how they want to live tend to regret it at posting time.
Whichever you pick, the post is a permanent Central Government job with pension, medical benefits, housing and allowances on top of the pay scale.
