JAIIB Study Material: What to Use, What to Skip
Official IIBF courseware, popular author notes, and free resources: reviewed honestly, source by source.
JAIIB study material falls into three groups: IIBF's own official courseware, third-party author notes built around that syllabus, and free resources scattered across IIBF's own previews and bank training portals. This page reviews all three honestly, source by source, rather than pushing one over the others.
One distinction worth making before anything else: JAIIB and CAIIB are separate IIBF certifications with separate syllabi. A book, note set or courseware edition written for one does not cover the other. Check the exam name on the cover, not just the publisher, before you buy.

IIBF's material is indicative, not exhaustive
IIBF itself states that its prescribed courseware is indicative study material and that examination questions are not confined to it. That cuts both ways: the official material is still the right starting point, because the syllabus is built from it, but treating it as a closed question bank, as if every exam question must trace back to a page in it, is a mistake candidates make and then feel blindsided by.
Quick Answer: What Should You Actually Use?
If you only read one section on this page, read this one.
- check_circleStart with the official IIBF/Macmillan courseware: it's the baseline the exam is written from, and skipping straight to a note set is the most common mistake candidates make.
- check_circleAdd one author note set only if you find the official material's prose dense to work through: use it alongside the courseware, not as a replacement for it.
- check_circleUse free material (IIBF's own previews, your bank's L&D portal) to get oriented before spending money, not as your entire preparation.
- check_circleDon't buy a second or third paid book before finding out (through practice, not a guess) which paper is actually your weak one.
Official IIBF & Macmillan Courseware
IIBF prescribes an official courseware for JAIIB, currently published in partnership with Macmillan. Publishers and editions change between revision cycles, so confirm the current edition on IIBF's website before buying.
- check_circleWritten to the current revised syllabus, it's the single resource every other option on this page gets compared against.
- check_circleCoverage is complete but dense: it reads like a reference text rather than a revision guide, so a first pass through it takes longer than a note set covering the same ground.
- check_circleBecause IIBF revises the syllabus periodically, an old or used copy can be a retired edition. Check the print year against IIBF's current scheme, not just the price.
- check_circleIt is not a question bank. Reading it teaches the concepts; on its own, it doesn't drill retrieval.

Free JAIIB Study Material
Free material exists in a few legitimate categories: none of them a substitute for the official courseware, all of them useful for getting oriented before you spend money.
- check_circleIIBF's own sample content and syllabus documents, published directly on its website.
- check_circlePreview chapters and sample material some publishers release for their own paid editions.
- check_circleMany banks' internal L&D or training portals give employees free access to JAIIB-relevant material as part of induction or promotion preparation.
- check_circleEstablished banking-exam candidate communities, where candidates share their own summaries, useful as a second perspective, not a primary source.
On free PDFs of paid books
Free PDFs of Murugan, N.S. Toor or Macmillan material that circulate on file-sharing sites and messaging channels are not something we link to or recommend. They're almost always outdated editions, and distributing someone else's paid book without permission is exactly the piracy this page is deliberately steering around. If a resource isn't free by the publisher's own design, treat a 'free' copy of it as unreliable at best.
How to Choose by Paper
JAIIB's four papers don't all reward the same kind of material equally.
- IE&IFS (Indian Economy & Indian Financial System)
- Leans on current economic and financial-system facts, so a recent revision date matters more here than on the other papers. An old note set is more likely to be stale specifically on this one.
- PPB (Principles & Practices of Banking)
- The most textbook-like paper. The official courseware is thorough but dense here; a simplified note set alongside it tends to help more on PPB than on the other three.
- AFM (Accounting & Financial Management for Bankers)
- Needs worked numerical problems, not just reading. Whatever material you use, prioritise one with solved examples over one that's prose-only. This is the paper where reading without practising is least likely to turn into marks.
- RBWM (Retail Banking & Wealth Management)
- Product- and process-heavy, with a lot of scheme names and limits to recall. Official material plus practice questions to test recall tends to work better here than notes alone.
Where PrepClever Fits
PrepClever doesn't publish JAIIB study notes and isn't a substitute for the material above: our practice questions and mock papers exist to test what you've already learned, not to teach it the first time. Read from the sources on this page, then use practice to find out what didn't actually stick.
Before You Buy
A short check before you spend on any JAIIB material, official or otherwise.
- checkConfirm the edition is written for the current revised JAIIB scheme, not a retired one.
- checkConfirm it's built for JAIIB specifically, not CAIIB or another IIBF exam. The syllabi differ even when a publisher's catalogue lists them side by side.
- checkBuy from a legitimate storefront, not a shared PDF of someone else's paid book.
- checkDon't buy a second book on top of the first before finding out, through practice, whether reading is actually your weak point.
- checkIf you already own the official courseware, ask what a second book adds before paying for it. Convenience isn't the same as new content.
JAIIB Study Material FAQs
What is the official JAIIB study material?expand_more
IIBF prescribes an official courseware, currently published in partnership with Macmillan, covering all four papers to the current revised syllabus. It's the resource the exam is actually built from.
Is Macmillan the official publisher for JAIIB?expand_more
IIBF's current courseware is published in partnership with Macmillan. Publishers and editions change between cycles, so confirm on IIBF's website before buying.
Are Murugan or N.S. Toor notes approved by IIBF?expand_more
No. They're long-standing third-party note sets some candidates use alongside the official material, not issued or endorsed by IIBF.
Where can I find free JAIIB study material?expand_more
IIBF's own sample content and syllabus documents, publisher preview chapters, and many banks' internal L&D portals cover a real chunk for free. Treat shared PDFs of paid books as unreliable. They're usually outdated or unauthorised copies, not the current edition.
What are the best books for JAIIB in 2026?expand_more
There isn't one universally 'best' book. The official courseware plus, optionally, one note set covers most candidates well. Compare options against what you actually need (see the table above) rather than chasing a ranked list.
Is one book enough for JAIIB?expand_more
For most candidates, the official courseware alone is enough to learn the syllabus. A second book adds convenience, not new content, and the return on it depends more on how much you practise than on how many books you own.
Does PrepClever provide JAIIB study notes?expand_more
No. PrepClever provides practice questions and mock tests for JAIIB, not study notes. Learn from the material reviewed above, then use practice to check what actually stuck.
