POSP Earnings: What the Commission Life Pays
No salary, no cap, no upfront investment. What that combination means in practice.
POSP earnings are entirely commission-based: no salary, no cap, and no upfront investment. Every policy sold pays a commission, so income tracks effort directly, from a modest side income for part-timers to several lakhs a year for active full-time sellers, with insurer bonuses and reward programs on top.
Commission-only cuts both ways, and this page keeps both edges visible. The ranges below are indicative, drawn from how the role typically plays out at different levels of commitment, not promises attached to the certificate.

How the Money Actually Arrives
You sell through your sponsor's app or portal, and the sponsor pays commission into the bank account you registered at KYC. The economics favour volume: POS products are standardised, so individual commissions are modest and income compounds through policy count, renewals and consistency rather than big single tickets.
The zero-investment part is real. Sponsors provide onboarding, training and the exam because they earn when you sell, so the downside of trying POSP work and finding it is not for you is measured in time, not money.
The earning starts after the exam. See the exam first.
What Separates Earners From Certificate Holders
- check_circleA warm network to start from. The first policies almost always come from people who already trust you.
- check_circleConsistency over intensity: a steady weekly selling rhythm beats bursts around renewal season.
- check_circleProduct breadth. POSPs who quote motor, health and term covers earn from more of their network than motor-only sellers.
- check_circleFollow-through on renewals and service, which is where a book of business becomes recurring income.
The Growth Path Is Built In
POSP is a floor, not a ceiling. Active sellers commonly move up in one of two ways: building a team under a broker or aggregator and earning overrides on its production, or clearing IC-38 to become a full agent with the entire product range. Neither requires giving up the book of clients built as a POSP.
FAQs
How much can a POSP earn per month?expand_more
There is no fixed amount, because earnings are commission per policy with no salary component. Indicatively, part-time sellers earn in the range of ₹1.5-4 LPA and active full-time sellers ₹3-8 LPA, with team leads earning more through overrides. Income follows the number of policies sold.
Does a POSP get a fixed salary?expand_more
No. POSP income is entirely commission-based and uncapped. Sponsors may add bonuses and reward programs, but there is no fixed monthly pay.
Is POSP income enough for a full-time career?expand_more
It can be: active full-time sellers indicatively earn ₹3-8 LPA, and team leads ₹4-10 LPA plus overrides. Most people who make it a career either build a POSP network or upgrade to an IC-38 licence for access to higher-commission customised products.
Do I have to invest money to start as a POSP?expand_more
No. There is zero upfront investment: IRDAI-registered sponsors typically provide the training and exam free as part of onboarding, since they earn when you sell.
