How to Become a POSP: The Full Process
Five steps from signup to certificate, and most of them happen inside one app. Here is the whole path.
Becoming a POSP takes five steps: register with an IRDAI-registered sponsor, submit KYC documents, complete 15 hours of online training, pass your sponsor's online qualifying exam, and receive the certificate after verification. The whole path commonly finishes within days, because every stage is on-demand and online.
The one decision that actually deserves thought is step zero: which sponsor. The training, the exam, the product shelf and every commission payout run through that choice, and it is easier to pick well than to switch later.

How to Become a POSP, Step by Step
- 1
Check eligibility and sign up with a sponsor
You need to be 18 or older, Class 10th pass, and an Indian citizen. Register with an IRDAI-registered insurer, broker or web-aggregator that offers POSP onboarding.
- 2
Submit KYC documents
Aadhaar or PAN, address proof, your Class 10th certificate, a photograph, and bank details for commission payouts.
- 3
Complete the 15-hour training
The IRDAI-mandated module covers insurance basics, products, regulations and sales conduct. It is online and self-paced, so 15 hours can spread across evenings or compress into two days.
- 4
Pass the online qualifying exam
Your sponsor administers a short online test on the training content. Clear the qualifying score to proceed.
- 5
Get certified and start selling
After background verification, the POSP certificate is issued, typically within a few days. From there, you sell pre-approved POS products and earn commission on every policy.
How Long Each Stage Takes

Picking a Sponsor: What to Compare
Sponsors are not interchangeable. Before signing up, compare:
- check_circleProduct shelf: which insurers' POS products you would actually be able to offer.
- check_circleCommission structure and payout cadence, since commission is the entire income.
- check_circleThe selling platform: most POSP work happens inside the sponsor's app or portal, so a clumsy one is a daily tax.
- check_circleSupport and training quality beyond the mandated 15 hours.
The Exam Is Short, Not Skippable
The qualifying exam tests the training content, and sponsors weight the compliance material: IRDAI conduct rules, mis-selling prohibitions, and what a POSP may and may not sell. Candidates who click through the training as a formality fail on exactly those questions. An hour of question practice before the exam removes the risk entirely.
After the Certificate
Certification is where the actual work begins: prospecting, quoting and closing standardised policies through the sponsor's platform. The products-you-can-sell page defines the boundary you will work inside, and the career and earnings page sets honest expectations for what the commission model pays at different levels of effort.
