POSP Eligibility: Who Can Become One
Two hard requirements and a citizenship condition. Almost everyone reading this qualifies.
POSP eligibility has three requirements: you must be an Indian citizen, at least 18 years old, and have passed Class 10th (matriculation). There is no upper age limit, no graduation requirement, and no need for prior insurance or sales experience.
That makes POSP one of the most open certifications in Indian financial services, and deliberately so: IRDAI created the category to widen insurance distribution beyond the pool that full agent licensing reaches. The rest of this page covers the documents sponsors ask for, and the honest version of who the role suits.

Who the Role Actually Suits
Eligibility says who may become a POSP; fit says who should. The work is selling: finding people who need motor, travel, personal accident or simple term and health cover, and closing standardised policies through a sponsor's app or portal. It is flexible, work-from-anywhere, and commission-only.
That last part is the filter. There is no salary floor, so income follows effort and network. Students, homemakers, shopkeepers and part-timers do well precisely because the role prices in partial attention. Anyone who needs a predictable monthly amount from day one is looking at the wrong certification.
Already Past Class 12th? You Still Might Not Want IC-38 First
Higher education does not push you out of POSP. Many candidates who qualify for the full IC-38 agent licence start as POSPs anyway, because the 15-hour route gets them selling within days and the IC-38 upgrade stays open forever. The POSP vs IC-38 page maps that decision properly.
