POSP Previous Year Papers: The Honest Position
Each sponsor sets its own paper, so there is no national POSP paper for a past paper to be a copy of.
There is no official POSP previous year question paper, with or without answers. Not because it is hard to find: because it does not exist in the form the search implies.
The POSP qualifying exam is administered by the IRDAI-registered insurer, broker or web-aggregator sponsoring you, each drawing its own paper under IRDAI's framework. There is no single national POSP paper sat by everyone in a given year, so there is nothing for a past paper to be a copy of, and no body that publishes one.

No Official POSP Paper Is Published
Neither IRDAI nor the sponsoring insurers release past POSP question papers or answer keys. Files circulating as "POSP previous year paper PDF" are either recalled content someone typed up after their own sponsor's test, or generic insurance question sets relabelled for search traffic. This page will not host, link to or dress up that material as official.
What Actually Exists to Practise Against
The useful substitute is not a paper, it is the syllabus. The exam tests the 15-hour IRDAI-mandated training content and nothing beyond it, which is an unusually tight and well-published boundary compared with most certifications.
That means practice questions written against the four training areas cover the same ground any real sponsor paper covers. Working through them is closer to sitting the actual exam than reading a stranger's recollection of a different sponsor's test.
The Format to Practise In
Sponsors set their own tests, so treat these as the common shape and confirm yours with your sponsor. The exam pattern page covers this in full.

The Four Areas Every Paper Draws From
Whatever your sponsor's paper looks like, it is built from the same training syllabus. These are the four areas, and where marks are usually lost within each.
- Insurance Basics
- What insurance is, risk and its management, the basic principles, and the role and responsibilities of a POSP. Straightforward recall, and the area candidates over-prepare.
- Point-of-Sale Products
- Motor, personal accident and travel, simple term life, standardised health and hospital cash, and other pre-approved POS products. Questions test recognition of what counts as a POS product, not underwriting depth.
- Regulatory and Compliance
- IRDAI's POSP guidelines and Master Circular, the code of conduct, KYC and AML requirements, and the prohibitions on mis-selling and rebating. The area that costs the most marks, because it reads like common sense and gets skimmed.
- Sales and Servicing
- Need-based selling of standardised products, proposal and documentation, premium collection and policy issuance, basic claims assistance, and grievance handling.
Do POSP Questions Repeat?
The question bank is not public, and each sponsor maintains its own, so chasing a specific repeated question is wasted effort even in principle.
The topics repeat, because they are fixed by the training module. Scope-of-work questions on what a POSP may and may not sell, and conduct questions on mis-selling, rebating and KYC, recur across sponsors for the simple reason that IRDAI requires them to be taught. Prepare the concept, not the question.
How to Use a Recalled Paper If You Find One
If someone shares a POSP question set from their own sitting, it is not worthless. It is just weaker evidence than it looks.
- 1
Check whose sponsor it came from
A set recalled from one insurer's test says nothing binding about another's. Question count, duration and qualifying score vary between sponsors.
- 2
Read it as reconstructed, not verbatim
It is someone's memory typed up after the exam. Wording, options and sometimes the stated answer drift from whatever the original said.
- 3
Verify every answer against the training
If you cannot justify an answer from the 15-hour module or IRDAI's conduct rules, treat the answer as wrong rather than learning it.
- 4
Use it for style, not for spotting
It gives a rough feel for phrasing and difficulty. Betting on a specific question reappearing in a different sponsor's paper is not a strategy.
- 5
Do the retrieval work on timed sets
Reading questions with the answers visible tells you nothing about recall. A scored, timed 50-question run does.
A Practice Plan That Replaces the Paper Hunt
Four passes, in this order:
- check_circleFinish the 15 hours properly, giving the compliance module a second read rather than a click-through.
- check_circleWork through practice questions area by area, so a weak area shows up as a pattern instead of a bad score.
- check_circleSit a full timed set in the 50-question, 60-minute shape before you book with your sponsor.
- check_circleRe-drill only the questions you got wrong. The exam is short, so a single soft area is a real share of the paper.
FAQs
Are POSP previous year question papers available?expand_more
No. The POSP qualifying exam is administered separately by each IRDAI-registered sponsoring insurer or intermediary, so there is no single national paper, and neither IRDAI nor the sponsors publish past papers or answer keys.
Where can I download a POSP question paper with answers PDF?expand_more
There is no official one to download. Files offered under that name are either a candidate's recollection of one sponsor's test or generic insurance questions relabelled for search traffic, and neither is a verified past paper.
What should I practise instead of past papers?expand_more
Practice questions written against the four training areas: insurance basics, point-of-sale products, regulatory and compliance, and sales and servicing. The exam tests the 15-hour training content and nothing beyond it, so the syllabus is the reliable target.
Do POSP exam questions repeat between candidates?expand_more
Topics repeat because the training module is fixed, particularly scope-of-work and conduct rules. Specific questions cannot be relied on, since each sponsor maintains its own question bank and none of them are published.
How many questions are on the POSP exam?expand_more
Typically 50 questions in 60 minutes, taken online after the 15-hour training. The exact count and duration can vary because each sponsor administers its own qualifying exam under IRDAI's framework.
