SSC MTS Books and Study Material: What You Actually Need
This exam sits at Class 10 level. The right reading list is short, and most of it is free.
For an exam pitched at Class 10 level, a long book list is a red flag. SSC MTS needs four things: basic maths fundamentals, one static GK source read completely, previous year papers, and a daily vocabulary habit. Two of those are free.
Here is the short list, subject by subject, and the reasoning for keeping it short.

What Each Subject Needs
- Numeric and Mathematical Ability
- NCERT Class 6-8 level maths covers every topic the section asks: number system, fractions, percentage, ratio, simple arithmetic. If school maths is distant, start there; if it is not, go straight to timed previous-year sets.
- Reasoning and Problem Solving
- No book teaches reasoning better than solved sets. Master analogy, series and coding-decoding first, from previous year papers, since they are the most scoring patterns and repeat reliably.
- General Awareness
- One standard static GK compilation, read once and fully, covers history, geography and polity. Layer on the last 3 months of current affairs: schemes, science news, sports and awards.
- English / Hindi
- Ten synonyms and antonyms a day plus comprehension passages from previous year papers. MTS passages repeat patterns often, which makes old papers the best-value language material available.

Match the Material to the Level
Buying CGL-grade books for MTS is the most common material mistake. They cost more, cover topics the exam never asks, and crowd out the timed practice that actually decides MTS ranks. The exam is basic by design; let the reading list be too.

Very. Reasoning patterns and comprehension passages repeat often in MTS, so old papers double as both practice and prediction.
How much current affairs material do I need?expand_more
Coverage of roughly the last 3 months, focused on government schemes, science, sports and awards, on top of one complete static GK read.
