IIBF International Trade Finance Question Papers
IIBF keeps its questions private. Here's what to prepare from instead.
If you are looking for an IIBF International Trade Finance question paper with answers, the direct answer is that no official one exists. IIBF does not release past papers, model papers or answer keys for this exam, and its own rules say why.
What does exist is enough to prepare properly: a published paper format, a published syllabus, IIBF's official book, the ICC rule texts themselves, and practice questions written to that syllabus. This page sets out each one, and how to treat the "trade finance question paper PDF" files that circulate online.

Why There Is No Single "Previous Paper"
The exam runs on many dates through the year, each with its own time slots, and each paper is drawn from IIBF's question bank. Candidates on different dates see different questions, so there is no one recent paper for everyone to have taken.
IIBF also builds in recent regulation. Exams held from March to August only use guidelines issued up to the previous 31 December; exams from September to February use guidelines up to 30 June. In trade finance, where RBI's export-import directions, the Foreign Trade Policy and ICC practice keep moving, an old recalled question can quote a rule that has since changed.

What the Format Means for Practice
120 questions in 120 minutes leaves one minute per question. That is fine for a definition and tight for a case study on a discrepant LC presentation, so practice should be timed.
With no negative marking, a blank and a wrong answer both score zero. Answer every question.
The pass bar is 60, and it is not a formality: in FY 2024-25, 1,026 of the 4,081 candidates who appeared passed, a pass rate of 25.14% per IIBF's annual report.
The Ground That Recurs
Specific questions are not recycled in any way you can rely on, but IIBF's syllabus flags the areas it sets case studies on. These are the safest places to spend practice time.
- Letters of credit under UCP 600 and ISBP 745
- Types of LC, parties, the examination of documents, discrepancies, presentation periods and the banks' obligations.
- Collections under URC
- Documents against payment and documents against acceptance, and what a collecting bank must and must not do. IIBF lists URC case studies.
- Guarantees under URDG and standbys under ISP98
- Demand guarantees, SBLCs and how a complying demand is handled. IIBF lists URDG case studies.
- Reimbursements under URR
- Bank-to-bank reimbursement under documentary credits (URR 725 and URR 525), with case studies in IIBF's list.
- Incoterms 2020
- Seller and buyer obligations under each rule, and what changed from Incoterms 2010. IIBF says these are case-study based.
- Maritime frauds and trade-based money laundering
- Modus operandi, red flags and prevention, both listed with case studies or scenarios.
How to Treat "Previous Paper" PDFs Online
- checkAssume it is a recollection, not an IIBF document. IIBF does not publish its papers.
- checkCheck every answer against the current rule text: UCP 600, ISBP 821 (the syllabus still names ISBP 745), URC, URDG, ISP98, Incoterms 2020 and RBI's current directions.
- checkDiscard questions that quote LIBOR as a live benchmark or old Foreign Trade Policy schemes. IIBF's syllabus now asks about the transition to ARRs.
- checkUse it to spot topics, never to memorise answers.
