You Don't Apply for the DRA Exam Yourself
The DRA exam application is filed online by your IIBF-accredited training agency, after you finish the mandatory training. There is no individual "apply online" form for this exam. Your first step is choosing a training agency, not visiting an exam portal.
Who Can Take the DRA Exam?
Anyone who is at least 18 and has passed 10th standard (SSC) can enrol for DRA training, and completing that training is what makes you eligible for the exam.
IIBF's rules name who the certificate is for: debt recovery agents, recovery telecallers, direct selling and direct marketing agents, and anyone else engaged for a bank's debt recovery or enforcement of securities, plus anyone who wants a career as a recovery agent. You don't need to be an IIBF member or a bank employee.

Why the Training Is Mandatory
The requirement comes from RBI. Its 2008 guidelines on recovery agents asked the Indian Banks' Association to build a certificate course with IIBF, and told banks to use only recovery agents who had done the training and earned the IIBF certificate. IIBF's rules extend this to NBFCs and to the agencies lenders hire.
Training is split between functional topics (banking operations and the legal process, especially collection) and soft skills such as interpersonal behaviour. IIBF's FAQ says you must attend the full duration.
How to Apply for the DRA Exam
- 1
Pick an IIBF-accredited training agency
IIBF publishes the list, with contact details, under the DRA tab on its website. As of its 2024-25 annual report, IIBF had accredited 32 institutions. Banks and NBFCs notified by IIBF can also train their own agents.
- 2
Enrol in a training batch
Most batches run online; some are offline. A 50-hour batch takes roughly 8 to 15 days and a 100-hour batch roughly 17 to 30 days, depending on daily hours.
- 3
Share your documents
Proof of education and proof of age, plus a photo ID such as Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence, voter ID or passport. The agency verifies them.
- 4
The agency registers you for an exam date
After training, the agency submits your exam application online to IIBF during that date's registration window and pays the ₹1,200 exam fee (plus taxes), usually as part of its own fee.
- 5
Collect your admit letter
The agency hands it out about a week before the exam. Bring it printed, with an original photo ID.
- 6
Sit the exam within 270 days
You have up to 3 attempts within 9 months of finishing training. After that, you retrain before you can register again.
Check the Agency Against IIBF's Own List
Only IIBF-accredited agencies, and bank or NBFC training units notified by IIBF, can deliver DRA training that leads to the exam. Before you pay anyone, find them on IIBF's published list of accredited DRA training institutions.
One Exemption
Retired bank officers aged 60 or above with wide recovery experience may be exempted from the training and certificate by the bank appointing them, at that bank's discretion. Everyone else needs both.
